Cause analysis and preventive measures of ceramic tile floor hollowing phenomenon

Publish Time: 2024-12-16
Ceramic tile floor hollowing is a common problem in building decoration. It not only affects the beauty of the floor, but also may cause the ceramic tile to loosen, crack or even fall off, seriously affecting the safety and life of use.

First of all, improper base treatment is one of the important reasons for hollowing. If there are impurities such as dust, oil, loose objects on the surface of the base, the ceramic tile bonding layer and the base cannot be tightly bonded. For example, if the floor is not thoroughly cleaned for ceramic tile paving, the bonding material is difficult to effectively adhere and it is easy to form hollows. Therefore, before paving ceramic tiles, be sure to ensure that the base is clean, flat and solid, and the base with problems such as sanding should be repaired.

The selection and use of bonding materials are also crucial when paving ceramic tiles. Poor quality of bonding materials, such as expired cement and unreasonable ratio, will lead to insufficient bonding. The ratio of cement to sand should be reasonably adjusted according to the type of ceramic tile and the use environment. Generally, a cement-sand ratio of 1:3 can be used for wall ceramic tile bonding, while a thicker ratio may be required for floor ceramic tiles. At the same time, the use of inferior ceramic tile glue may also cause hollowing. You should choose adhesive products with reliable quality and in line with national standards, and operate strictly in accordance with the product instructions.

Irregular construction technology can also cause hollowing problems. When laying ceramic tiles, if the adhesive material is not evenly applied, there is a lack of adhesive material in the hollow part; or if the ceramic tile is not fully hit with a rubber hammer during the laying process to make it fit tightly with the base, it may cause hollowing. In addition, premature disturbance or walking on or placing heavy objects on the ceramic tile after laying will also destroy the initial condensation of the adhesive layer and produce hollowing. Therefore, construction personnel should have professional skills and operate strictly in accordance with construction specifications. After laying ceramic tiles, give enough curing time to avoid premature stress.

Environmental factors also affect the laying of ceramic tiles. When laying ceramic tiles in a humid environment or an environment with large temperature changes, the drying and curing process of the adhesive material may be disturbed, affecting the bonding effect. For example, in rainy weather, the moisture content of the base and adhesive material is too high, and the evaporation of water in the later stage may cause hollowing. Therefore, ceramic tile paving operations should be carried out under suitable weather conditions as much as possible, and attention should be paid to ventilation and dryness of the construction environment.

The quality of ceramic tile itself should not be ignored. If there is too much release agent residue on the back of the ceramic tile, uneven water absorption, etc., it will affect the adhesion effect of the bonding material and the ceramic tile. Therefore, when purchasing ceramic tile, you should choose products of qualified quality, and check whether the back of the ceramic tile is clean and flat before paving.

Preventing ceramic tile floor hollowing requires starting from the base treatment, material selection, construction technology and environmental control. Only by comprehensively controlling each link can the occurrence of hollowing phenomenon be effectively reduced and the quality and service life of the ceramic tile floor be ensured.
